How much does EdCamp cost?
Absolutely nothing, we are able to offer this PD opportunity for free.
Who can attend EdCamp?
We want to have as diverse group as possible attend EdCamp. For that reason, we hope to see teachers, administrators, and any one else associated with education. Whether you are associated with a public, private, or charter school, your voice and expertise is welcomed.
How do I register?
To register, simply visit our Registration page and fill out the form, once submitted you are registered for EdCamp YYC. That's it!
What will the day look like?
Past EdCamps have started with a little informal chatting and networking, followed by a keynote speaker or a panel discussion (we think we're leaning towards a keynote speaker this year). After that we'll break off into a variety of sessions-there's PLENTY of sessions to choose from- and we'll share some/all of those session topics with you as the day nears. Usually there are two sessions in the morning, followed by lunch and then another two afternoon sessions.
Sessions are very conversational- they aren't typically "stand and deliver" presentations. These are opportunities to discuss a variety of educational issues, throw in your two cents, and definitely learn from your colleagues and peers.
Do I have to present?
You do not have to present/facilitate a session, what we do ask of participants though is that they come willing to participate and work with the group in an attempt to answer the session question. You will not be presented to in these sessions, but instead the group will work out the issue and the hope is that every participant comes away with a better understanding of how they view the issue and how they can apply what they have learned in the classroom.
What do I need to know about facilitating a session?
Facilitating really means that you are guiding the conversation on the topic of your choice. Sessions are meant to be conversational rather than stand and deliver presentations. We want your sessions to be interactive, participatory and engaging- so guide them in a way that makes sense to you!
Can I bring a friend?
Absolutely, the more participants the better, bring 10 friends! (get them to register!)
How do I explain EdCamp to my Admin?
-EdCamp is a personalized PD opportunity.
-You will be connecting with educators that share the same challenges and questions as yourself.
-You will come away with ideas, resources, or approaches you can use in your class.
-You will become a member of a larger community that you can access for help, advice, and ideas.
-We would encourage you to share some of the topics found here to help give an idea of what will be discussed on this day.
What Should I Bring?
Bring a friend. A laptop with wireless Internet is useful. It will allow you to view the session board online, take notes, and view websites discussed throughout the day.
Do I need a Twitter account to attend?
Absolutely not, but if you do have an account, we would encourage you to be a part of the conversation leading up to EdCamp YYC by following @EdCampYYC2015 If you do not have a twitter account, we think that following the day of learning you just may decide to sign up yourself. Twitter simply provides a backchannel to conversations and acting as a way to expand your PLN.
