The first EdCamp took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2010.
It started with the idea that teacher PD can and should be free, accessible and teacher driven. Sessions at EdCamps are facilitated by teachers, for teachers who are passionate about their own professional learning. EdCampYYC is in its third year, and it promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a wide and ecclectic range of sessions to choose from. Whether you've been to every EdCampYYC in the past, or this is your first time- you will find something that will open your eyes to the possibilities of teacher driven PD.
We want EdCampYYC to attract progressive educators that are pushing beyond their practices driven by over-prescription and standardization. We want to learn how to create learning environments that are more natural, and aligned with what we know about how kids learn. We believe that we can give this movement a great boost by exposing teachers to the conversation around practice that is more in tune with our natural teaching instincts. They will see that the vision of Inspiring Education is based on creating more varied, deeper, richer and more personally meaningful experiences for kids. What teacher can argue with a focus on developing the competencies and dispositions that will help kids thrive in a world of constant change?
You'll find everything you need to get signed up to attend EdCampYYC and to ask questions!
EdCampYYC is open to educators from across all jurisdictions in Alberta. See you there!
